Who is SGO?

The Society of Gynecologic Oncologists (SGO) is the premier medical specialty society for physicians trained in the comprehensive management of gynecologic cancers in women. Our purpose is to improve the care of women with gynecologic cancers by encouraging research and disseminating knowledge, raising the standards of practice in the prevention and treatment of gynecologic malignancies and collaborating with other organizations interested in women’s health care, oncology and related fields.
As medical professionals with a special interest and expertise in gynecologic cancers, we dedicate our work to helping women conquer the cancers unique to them. We uphold the highest standards of quality care, and through research, we are creating new and innovative ways to improve the treatment and care of patients. SGO members advocate and contribute to a comprehensive approach to screening, diagnosis and treatment; empowering women with the knowledge to provide answers, support and hope.

Who comprises SGO’s membership: Now and in the Future 

Our 1,300+ members include gynecologic oncologists in both the United States and abroad, as well as Candidates, Fellows and Residents participating in gynecologic oncology training programs. Our members practice in a variety of settings, including academic institutions and hospitals, major regional cancer centers, and private practice.

SGO is currently in the process of expanding its membership model for the Society – creating one that is more inclusive and better reflects the professional teams that care and treat women’s cancers today. The Society believes the new member model retains the integrity and focus of the gynecologic oncology profession, while including and recognizing the important, valuable contributions and input of other women’s cancer care professionals. Moving forward, SGO will be uniquely equipped and ready to address the challenges the future healthcare environment will pose to women’s cancer treatment, and will continue to flourish and remain the advocate and preeminent resource for women’s cancer professionals and for the women battling these diseases.
