Government Relations

The SGO believes there is no better cause than that of women’s cancer care and the right of every patient to receive competent and comprehensive treatment. In support of this philosophy, SGO regularly works with local, state and federal government regarding public policy that affects our patients and profession. As an advocate for our members and the women’s cancer community, SGO does more than simply “watchdog” issues. It actively and aggressively advocates to directly impact the legislative and regulatory process.

SGO's Government Relations Committee works to ensure that policymakers in our nation’s capitol support education and research programs for gynecologic cancers. The Committee enhances the effectiveness of these efforts by educating members and working in collaboration with allied organizations, patient advocacy groups, and health professionals with similar goals.

SGO cultivates relationships with the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the National Cancer Institute (NCI), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the U.S. Health and Human Service Office of Women’s Health, and governmental agencies that influence women’s health.  The Society also works with professional and patient advocacy groups pursuing agendas to increase research opportunities for gynecologic oncologists. These efforts also create more education programs for the public and healthcare providers which translates into improved patient care.

To support current advocacy efforts, visit the Legislative Action Center.  In addition, a list of the current legislative positionsregulatory issues as well as government testimony are readily available for review and corresponding action.
