Coordinator of Professional Education
Administrative & Office Assistant
Dawn Browning joined SGO as an Administrative/Office Assistant in June 2018. Dawn is responsible for providing administrative support for the Chief Executive Officer and other general society/office administration. Prior to her employment at SGO, Dawn worked for Navigant Consulting, Inc., Willis Stein and Partners, and The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. In addition to English, Dawn has passing knowledge or fluency in German, French, Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese. She has studied at The American University of Paris and Parsons School of Design Paris, where she earned a BFA in Illustration from the New School of Social Research.
Chief Financial Officer
Prior to starting his own business—Burger Financial Services, Inc.—Steve spent four years as Senior Director of Financial Management at SmithBucklin, the world’s largest association management company. In 2007, he became CFO of SGO. As CFO, Steve manages the finance committee; compiles and manages budgets, forecasting, cash management, financial modeling and pricing; and performs any needed financial analysis. Steve is a graduate of Loyola University Chicago.
Chief Executive Officer
Society of Gynecologic Oncology Foundation for Women’s Cancer
Pierre Désy has been CEO of the Society of Gynecologic Oncology and Foundation for Women’s Cancer since April 2016. Pierre’s goal is to work with the Society’s and the Foundation’s boards of directors, executive committee, staff, members and stakeholders to advance the organizations’ missions. Pierre has worked at the senior executive level in the field of association management since 2000. He has held the positions of Director of the ENA Injury Prevention Institute as well as Chief Development Officer at the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA). Prior to coming to SGO, he served as Executive Director at the International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (IAOMS). Pierre has degrees from Université de Montréal, Loyola University Chicago, and University of Illinois at Chicago.
Development and Grants Manager
Damen joined the Foundation for Women’s cancer in June 2017 as the Development and Grants Coordinator and is currently the Development and Grants Manager. In that role, Damen assists in the preparation of grant proposal tracking and monitoring, as well as prospect research, and providing support to identify and manage new strategic partnerships. Prior to working for FWC and SGO, Damen has worked in both the non-profit and for-profit arenas, with time spent at Get Covered Illinois’ Outreach and Education team, McMaster Carr’s product information department, and the Bureau of Land Management in WY. Damen has a Bachelor of Arts from The Colorado College in Colorado Springs, CO.
Director of Professional Education
Staff Liaison: Education Committee
A member of the SGO Education team since December 2018, Dale is an experienced senior nonprofit management professional with 25 years of health care association experience. His career has centered on working with volunteer entities to develop programs and resources that benefit the greater organization and the public constituencies they serve. He has served as Director of Education and subsequently Director of Meetings and Events at the Emergency Nurses Association followed by Director of Education at the Academy of General Dentistry. He obtained his bachelor’s degree in Broadcast and Telecommunications from Indiana University, Bloomington, IN. He received his Certified Association Executive (CAE) certification in 2005.
FWC Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations
Terri joined the Foundation for Women’s Cancer in June 2011 and is currently the Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations. In that role, Terri manages corporate relations to help meet the programmatic and operating needs of FWC’s and SGO’s mission-based programs. Prior to working for FWC and SGO, Terri was employed by the Angelman Syndrome Foundation, Rush-Copley Medical Center, Central DuPage Hospital (now Northwestern Healthcare), Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of DuPage and University of Illinois-Chicago National Research and Training Center. Terri has a Bachelor of Social Work and a Master of Social Work from Aurora University in Aurora, IL.
Amber joined the SGO Meetings team as the Meetings Coordinator in October 2017. Amber coordinates various logistical aspects of SGO meetings and events, including the SGO Annual Meeting on Women’s Cancer, the SGO Winter Meeting, and the Gynecologic Cancer Survivors Courses hosted by the Foundation for Women’s Cancer. Amber graduated from Illinois State University with a bachelor’s degree in Parks and Recreation Administration.
Chief Meetings and Education Officer
As SGO’s Chief Meetings and Education Officer, Teri oversees all education and live meeting experiences, focusing on exhibits, sponsorship and other industry relations. She also manages the Survivor Course program for the Foundation for Women’s Cancer. An SGO staff member since August 2014, Teri’s career began in hotel operations, including front office, convention services and catering. Her previous association experience includes the American Nuclear Society, American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, Association Forum of Chicago and the Healthcare Financial Management Association. Teri is a graduate of Ball State University in Muncie, IN.
Senior Communications Manager
Staff Liaison: Publications Committee
Robyn joined the SGO Communications team in August 2012. In her role as Senior Communications Manager, Robyn is the editor of all SGO and Foundation for Women’s Cancer (FWC) newsletters and Annual Reports, the Annual Meeting Final Program, website manager for all SGO/FWC websites, and oversees video production for various SGO/FWC projects. Robyn’s career in communications includes writing and video production for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Abbott Laboratories, Diocese of Orlando, and numerous freelance clients. Robyn has a bachelor’s degree in American Studies/Spanish from the University of Notre Dame and a master’s degree in Broadcast Journalism from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Membership Operations Consultant
Erin provides daily support to SGO members and potential members from the application process through retirement, responding to member requests and maintaining membership records. Erin has held several positions in a small chemical testing lab as a lab technician, office manager, and IT manager. She is certified in web development and has recently worked as a reading and writing tutor and teaching assistant at Northeastern Illinois University (NEIU) in Chicago. Erin has a bachelor’s degree from Oberlin College in Oberlin, OH, and a master’s degree in Linguistics from NEIU. She is proficient in Japanese.
ASO Executive Director/Manager of Governance
As Executive Director of SGO’s Association Services Organization (ASO), Jennifer delivers association management, education and meeting planning services to four small associations within the OB/GYN and gynecologic oncology subspecialties, with almost 1,000 members combined. As Manager of Governance, she provides assistance to committee members and leadership, which includes board elections, bylaws amendments, and committee/board appointments. Jennifer served as Administrative Director for the Association for Child Development before joining SGO’s staff in October 2014. Jennifer has a bachelor’s degree in Applied Science with a concentration in Computer Networking, and a master’s degree in Public Administration with a concentration on Nonprofit Management from Roosevelt University.
Director of Practice, Quality and Outcomes
Staff Liaison: Clinical Practice Committee
Jessica joined SGO in September 2008 as a Communications Coordinator, and held staff positions in education and clinical practice before being named Director of Practice, Quality and Outcomes in January 2017. In her current position, Jessica manages and oversees all initiatives for the Clinical Practice Committee, Wellness Taskforce, Program Directors Network, and the Clinical Outcomes Registry (COR). Prior to working for SGO, Jessica has been employed at Weber Shandwick, Oakton Community College, and the Equis and Dickinson Group. She has a bachelor’s in Public Relations from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, IL.
Jessie Paré has been a member of the SGO Meetings team since June 2018. As a Meeting Specialist, Jessie plans meeting logistics and education for the Administrative Services Organization (ASO) arm of the SGO, specifically for the Western Association of Gynecologic Oncology, Council of University Chairs of Obstetrics and Gynecology, American Gynecological & Obstetrical Society, and Infectious Diseases Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Prior to coming to SGO, Jessie worked as an event coordinator for the Chicago History Museum, catering manager for W Hotels of Chicago and an account executive for Calihan Catering. She has a bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education and History from Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago.
Lindsey joined the Society of Gynecologic Oncology (SGO) communications team in July 2018. In her current role as Marketing Manager, Lindsey is responsible for developing and implementing integrated marketing strategies and promotional campaigns for SGO education, membership, products and services, as well as the Foundation for Women’s Cancer (FWC) patient education, awareness initiatives and fundraising campaigns. Previously, Lindsey has worked in marketing and communications roles at Resilience (formerly Rape Victim Advocates) and TEKLYNX International. In June 2016, she returned from Peace Corps-Indonesia where she taught high school English for two years. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Marketing from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and a master’s in nonprofit management from DePaul University’s School of Public Service.
Consultant to Health Policy and Socio Economic Committee
Jill is a Managing Partner at Galileo Consulting Group, Inc., in Arlington, VA. With over 25 years of health care policy experience, Jill works with SGO’s Health Policy and Socio Economic Committee and its four task forces regarding Medicare and private insurance reimbursement, coding, payment and coverage issues, and Federal funding for gynecologic cancer research. She holds a Master’s Degree in Health Services Administration (MHSA) with a concentration in Health Policy and Planning from The George Washington University and a BS in Management and Marketing from Kansas State University.
Manager of Meetings
Working for SGO Meetings was Tori’s first job after college graduation, and she has been a member of the SGO staff since September 2014. Tori serves SGO as the Manager of Meetings, performing meeting and event planning duties for live educational SGO meetings. Additionally she handles logistics for the patient-centered Foundation for Women’s Cancer Survivor Courses. Tori has a bachelor’s degree in Communications from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Clinical Practice Coordinator
Staff Liaison: Palliative Care Taskforce, Ethics Committee and Health Policy Socioeconomic Committee
Traci joined SGO in August 2017 as the Clinical Practice Coordinator, and she is responsible for deadline management and execution of practice initiatives within the clinical practice, program directors and wellness committees. Her previous meetings and events experience includes various positions within the International Foodservice Manufacturers Association and Arkadin (formerly ConferencePlus). Traci has an associate’s degree in business administration from Colorado Technical University.
Megan Stankewicz joined SGO in August 2017; since June 2018 Megan has been a Meetings Assistant focused on the Foundation for Women's Cancer patient education courses. In May 2017 Megan graduated from Loyola University in Chicago, where she double majored in Political Science and International Studies. Growing up in a military family, she has lived in various locations throughout the United States and around the world.
Chief Communications and Membership Officer
Staff Liaison: Communications Committee and Membership Committee
Ellen oversees the development and implementation of communication strategies for the Society and Foundation to reach key audiences, and is responsible for driving membership satisfaction and growth through strategic leadership and planning in concert with organizational goals. An SGO staff member since April 2012, Ellen has also worked at the American Society for Clinical Pathology, Institute of Food Technologists, Youngstown State University, and as a daily newspaper reporter for The Vindicator in Youngstown, OH. She has a bachelor’s degree in economics and German from Washington University in St. Louis, a master’s in journalism from Northwestern University, and a master’s in exercise science from Northeastern Illinois University.
Senior Graphic Designer
Kelsey joined SGO in October 2014. As the Senior Graphic Designer, Kelsey oversees graphic design, branding, art direction and strategy for both SGO/FWC for print, web and video. This includes creating logos, booklets/brochures, websites, social media/web graphics and email templates. Previously, Kelsey has been employed in design/marketing positions for Jones Lang LaSalle, Michigan State University Alumni Association and the MSU College of Engineering, as well as working as a freelance designer. Kelsey graduated from Michigan State University with a bachelor’s degree in Studio Art with specializations in Graphic Design and Photography and a minor in Art History.
Director of Finance
Mike Vogl has worked for SGO since October 2011. As Director of Finance, Mike is responsible for reporting and providing support to the SGO and FWC Treasurer, who oversees and monitors the financial strategies of the organizations. He has worked as a Controller for the National Association of Bond Lawyers, for a media support services company and public accounting firms. Prior to his accounting career, Mike worked as an on-air radio personality in downstate Illinois. He has a communications degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and an accounting degree from Northern Illinois University.
Director of Meetings
As Director of Meetings, Kayla is a Certified Meeting Professional who coordinates all aspects of various SGO and FWC events. Her primary focus is on planning the SGO educational courses, including the Allied Health Professionals Workshop, the Early Career Summit, the SGO Winter Meeting, and the Annual Meeting. An SGO staff member since August 2016, Kayla has previously worked for the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists and the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. She is a graduate of Calvin College in Grand Rapids, MI.
Junior Graphic Designer
Jennifer Zoleta began interning for SGO communications in May 2016 and officially joined the staff in January 2018. Ensuring that a strong visual identity is present and applied across all visual materials, Jennifer creates graphics and typeset materials such as brochures, banners, ads, email graphics, and social media. Her other duties include video editing, short animations, and illustration. Previously Jennifer worked as a graphic aide at University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), a design intern for Studio/lab, and freelancer for ThinkCERCA. She received a bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design and a minor in Studio Art from UIC.
