About Honolulu

Honolulu is the capital city of the US state of Hawaii, and is located on the island of Oahu, which is also known as the “Heart of Hawaii.” Oahu is the third largest of the eight major Hawaiian Islands, and is home to about two-thirds of the state’s population. Hawaii’s capital city is home to Pearl Harbor, Iolani Palace, Waikiki Aquarium, Leahi (Diamond Head Crater), and many more natural wonders.

Honolulu is internationally famous for Waikiki Beach, one of many tropical beaches on the island. Beach season is year-round in this part of the Hawaiian Islands, with average high temperatures of 80–90 °F (27–32 °C) and average lows of 65–75 °F (18–24 °C) throughout the year.

The Honolulu International Airport (HNL) on Oahu is Hawaii’s major airport and is the entry point for most of Hawaii’s visitors, with airline service by all major domestic carriers and many international carriers. The Hawaii Convention Center, where the 2019 SGO Annual Meeting will be held, is adjacent to the iconic Waikiki resort area, and fronts Kalakaua Avenue, the boulevard anchoring Honolulu’s shopping, dining and entertainment scene.
