2013 SGO Allied Health Professionals Workshop

Colleagues from leading women’s cancer centers gathered together for the 2013 Allied Health Professionals Workshop in Nashville, TN, on Oct. 12, 2013 at Vanderbilt University.

Course Description

Led by Kimberly Camp, RN, MSN, ANP-BC, OCN, and Karen Lyle, PA-C, this one-day workshop will enable attendees to expand their knowledge about endometrial cancer and how to optimize delivery of patient care in a variety of settings. In-depth lectures will guide the audience though the biology and landmark clinical trials of endometrial cancer, as well as how to refine skills related to providing genetic counseling, caring for the patient on a clinical trial and the potential and obstacles in developing a survivorship clinic.

Course Directors

Kimberly CampKimberly Camp has spent 16 years of her nursing career in oncology treating solid tumors and the past four years in gynecologic oncology care. As a presenter, she has conducted numerous presentations and focused on supportive care dealing with chemotherapy and side effects. She is certified as an ONS Chemo/Biotherapy Trainer and has presented at nursing groups and other functions within Duke University Cancer Center.

Karen LyleKaren Lyle joined The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Division of Gynecologic Oncology in 2004. During her time at UPMC she has founded The Livewell Survivorship Center for cancer survivors, has twice received the Achievement for Commitment in Excellence and Service award for patient care and education to the community, and has been chosen The Women’s Health Preceptor of the Year. Karen lectures regularly for the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition and the Pitt School of Nursing. She joined the SGO in 2012 and serves on the Membership Committee and is Vice Chair of the Allied Leadership Committee.

Course Objectives

  • List the NCCN guidelines for endometrial cancer and basic management strategies of endometrial cancer
  • Explain genetic risks for endometrial cancer and discuss basic counseling skills
  • Discuss the advantages and most common obstacles in developing a survivorship clinic

Oncology Nursing Society (ONS)

This activity has been submitted to the Oncology Nursing Society for approval to award contact hours. ONS is accredited as an approver of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s COA.

Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME)

The Society of Gynecologic Oncology (SGO) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education to physicians. SGO designates the Allied Health Workshop for a maximum of 6.75 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and Elements of the ACCME.

American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA)

This program is has been reviewed and is approved for a maximum of 6.75 hours of AAPA Category 1 CME credit by the Physician Assistant Review Panel. Physician assistants should claim only those hours actually spent participating in the CME activity. This program was planned in accordance with AAPA’s CME Standards for Live Programs and for Commercial Support of Live Programs.
