Snapshot of SGO

The Society for Gynecologic Oncology (SGO) exists to unite all members of the gynecologic oncology team in an effort to eradicate women’s cancer. Founded in 1969, it is the premier medical specialty society for physicians trained in the comprehensive management of gynecologic cancers, and currently has 2,000 members. SGO hosts the Annual Meeting on Women’s Cancer®, the foremost educational and scientific event for physicians and healthcare professionals working within the gynecologic oncology field.

Member Demographics

  • The main cancer types that SGO members treat include cervical, ovarian, uterine, vulvar, and vaginal cancers
  • Ninety-six percent of the members are U.S.-based and 4% are international representing 35 countries
  • Members include gynecologic oncologists (67%), medical oncologists (2%), pathologists (1%), radiation oncologists (1%), obstetrician/gynecologists (1%), nurse practitioners (2%), physician assistants (2%), fellows-in-training (10%), residents (5%) and other allied health care professionals (9%) interested in the treatment and care of women’s cancer
  • SGO members provide multidisciplinary cancer treatment including chemotherapy, radiation therapy, surgery and supportive care
