The Society of Gynecologic Oncology (SGO) is proud to join leading medical societies, advocacy organizations, and research partners in supporting the National Strategy to Close the Women’s Health Gap, a comprehensive framework that calls for a $20 billion, 10-year federal investment to advance women’s health research, improve access to evidence-based care, strengthen the clinical workforce, and build the data infrastructure needed to improve health outcomes for women.

“SGO is proud to support the National Strategy to Close the Women’s Health Gap because it reflects the work we have long championed to address critical evidence gaps that affect women’s health outcomes. In gynecologic cancers, we see this need clearly in the rising incidence of endometrial cancer and the disparities in outcomes. By advancing research and innovation, access to high quality care, and strengthening the pipeline of clinicians and researchers dedicated to women’s health, this strategy represents an important step towards a future in which every woman benefits from the scientific discoveries to achieve the best possible health outcomes,” said SGO President Matthew A. Powell, MD. “This strategy represents an important opportunity to build on that work through sustained national investment in women’s health.”

SGO has been actively engaged in advancing many of these priorities through its federal advocacy efforts. Recent work has included advocating for increased investment in gynecologic cancer research, including efforts to advance endometrial cancer research; supporting public awareness, education, and prevention initiatives such as Johanna’s Law, HPV vaccination, and cervical cancer screening; engaging with the National Cancer Institute on women’s cancer research priorities; and promoting policies that strengthen the clinical workforce and expand access to care. SGO looks forward to continuing to work with policymakers and partners to advance these shared priorities and improve outcomes for women.
