Uterine Cancer Awareness Month: How Clinicians Can Use SGO Resources to Support Patients

Uterine Cancer
Jun 1, 2026

June is Uterine Cancer Awareness Month, an important time to elevate awareness, encourage informed conversations, and support earlier recognition and evaluation of uterine cancer symptoms.

As uterine cancer incidence continues to rise, clinicians remain at the center of patient education, evidence-based care, and efforts to improve outcomes. This month, the Society of Gynecologic Oncology (SGO) is highlighting practical resources, educational tools, and clinical guidance designed to help members support patients in clinics, hospitals, research settings, and multidisciplinary care teams.

Leading the Conversation Around Symptom Awareness

Conversations between providers and patients play a critical role in helping patients recognize when symptoms warrant evaluation. Educational efforts around abnormal uterine bleeding, postmenopausal bleeding, persistent pelvic pain or pressure, and unexplained discharge remain essential to supporting timely care.

Patient hesitation, delayed care, and uncertainty about symptoms continue to present barriers for many individuals. Clear communication and trusted educational materials can help patients feel heard, informed, and empowered to seek evaluation when symptoms persist.

Throughout June, SGO encourages members to use and share available educational resources to support these conversations in everyday clinical practice.

Resources Designed to Support Clinical Practice and Patient Education

As part of Uterine Cancer Awareness Month, SGO is sharing:

These tools are intended to help clinicians incorporate evidence-based education into patient interactions while supporting broader awareness efforts across communities and care settings.

Advancing Health Equity in Uterine Cancer Care

Awareness efforts must also include continued focus on disparities in outcomes. Black women remain disproportionately affected by aggressive forms of uterine cancer and experience worse outcomes compared with other populations.

Continued education, research, awareness, and equitable access to care remain critical priorities across gynecologic oncology. SGO remains committed to supporting conversations and initiatives that advance equitable care for all patients.

Supporting Awareness Beyond the Clinic

Members are also encouraged to direct patients and caregivers to the Foundation for Women’s Cancer (FWC), the official foundation of SGO. FWC provides trusted patient education and public awareness resources focused on gynecologic cancer prevention, early detection, treatment, and survivorship.

Expanding awareness beyond the clinic remains an important part of improving outcomes and helping more patients access timely evaluation and care.

Explore and Share SGO Resources This Month

Throughout Uterine Cancer Awareness Month, SGO will continue sharing educational content, expert perspectives, and practical resources designed to support clinicians and care teams.

Together, we can continue advancing awareness, improving care conversations, and helping more patients access timely evaluation and treatment.
