Personal Statement
My goal is to be an effective, transformative leader in our organization. I believe in creating change through service. I bring to the SGO Board a unique complement of expertise in translational science, clinical trials, patient advocacy and interactions with both federal and state governing bodies. I have served this organization by leading the Patient Education Committee and recently joined the Industry Corporate Council, in addition to many hours devoted to the SGO BRIDGES program. My relationships within NRG Oncology (voting member of the Developmental Therapeutics Committee), GOG Partners (international PI for GOG 3121) and the Foundation for Women’s Cancer (content creator for patient resource guides) bring additional value and experience. My vision for the SGO is that it be an instrumental change-agent in reducing the burden of gynecologic cancers worldwide. Eradicating cancer is an amazing goal but can diminish what can be accomplished in the shorter-term. We, as providers and advocates, can prevent cervical cancer, leverage biomarker-driven de-escalation of therapy in uterine cancer, cure previously incurable ovarian cancers and minimize the long-term toxicities of cancer therapy. We are on the cusp of some remarkable breakthroughs – now it is our job to make these accessible worldwide, without accepting setbacks to the delivery of evidence-based care here in the United States. Perhaps my most important quality as a candidate is that I am an approachable human. My car is dirty. My child can behave terribly. I ate tortilla chips for dinner last night. There are plenty of things wrong with me, but like most of you, I work hard, show up, listen and learn. I care deeply about patients with gynecologic cancer, as well as the SGO membership that serves them. I have the experience, energy, and motivation to advocate effectively on behalf of our organization. Thanks for voting.
