News Article
Aug 12, 2026

The Society of Gynecologic Oncology (SGO) and the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES) have released a new clinical practice statement on the role of metabolic and bariatric surgery (MBS) and other weight loss interventions in the management of obesity among patients with endometrial intraepithelial neoplasia (EIN) and endometrial cancer.

The statement provides evidence-based guidance to help clinicians consider how obesity treatment can be integrated across the cancer care continuum. It explores lifestyle and pharmacologic interventions, metabolic and bariatric surgery, opportunities for early referral, and the importance of multidisciplinary care.

For gynecologic oncology teams, the statement offers practical considerations for addressing obesity and metabolic health alongside oncologic treatment, including early conversations and referrals when appropriate.
