Minimally Invasive Surgery Academy: Hands on Workshop for Fellows

The SGO invites you to send your fellows who have already completed one year of clinical fellowship and attendings to the 2017 Minimally Invasive Surgery Academy: Hands on Workshop for Fellows. This will be an opportunity for your fellows to augment their fellowship learning experience by attending this live two-day cadaveric MIS course to get hands-on experience in pelvic and para-aortic nodal dissections, radical hysterectomy, as well as techniques, tips, troubleshooting, and tricks specifically for clinical application in gynecologic oncology. To maximize the impact of this course, we also suggest having a surgical mentor attend the workshop with his/her fellow, as there will also be an Attending Track to help with sharing experience, tips, and methods on teaching the learner in robotic surgery.

Applications will open in June with determinations in July. The 2017 Minimally Invasive Surgery Academy Workshops will be held on the following dates.

Oct. 26, 2017: Sunnyvale, CA
Dec. 7, 2017: Atlanta, GA
Dec. 14, 2017: Sunnyvale, CA

Complete details and applications for the 2017  Minimally Invasive Surgery Academy: Hands on Workshop for Fellows and Attendings will be available soon.

Lead by minimally invasive surgical experts Joshua Cohen, MD; Kenneth Kim, MD; and Emma Rossi, MD, this will be a great opportunity to get gynecologic oncology-oriented robotic experience for your clinical fellow to help maximize operating on patients in the live setting. This course is also designed to complement and springboard from our SGO Robotics Academy webinar Series (which you can access for free through SGO Connect Ed), as these will provide a solid robotics knowledge base prior to the course.

Faculty experts will lead the two-day, hands-on and didactic workshop designed to address the following topics:

  • Career Impact of Robotics and Setting up for Success after Fellowship
  • Robotics for Endometrial Cancer and Cervical Cancer
  • Sentinel Lymph Node Identification & Dissection
  • Docking and Port Placement for Si and Xi
